On this week!

Sunday: vs Olney Rugby Football Club

What a good game boys. Played in great spirit and celebrated with great amounts of spirit afterwards! The Shebeen Boys played the touring English club Olneys at Lutgensvale on Sunday morning. The Been Boys managed to win comfortably, outscoring the Poms by about 10 tries to 2 (according to Rolf after five or six beers). It was a good practice run for the Beenies as they prepare to face the high-flying Barbarians this Wednesday, and the game was played in a competitive yet amiable spirit.

Players from both sides arrived in drips and drabs after a rumoured big night in Claremont, but to their credit, nobody used this as an excuse. The Shebeen Boys had the edge over the visitors with pace to burn out wide, and many of their tries originated from broken play.

Plaudits need to go to the forwards for turning over a lot of possession on the deck, and the Been Boys backs showcased fine finishing skills after the first line of defence was broken. It was never going to be a game where the Beenies could employ their structures to full effect, but the looser game did suit their style with players running off the ball-carrier beautifully.

Team Shot

Heath’s phone: not great for photos

The party moved to Olympic Sports Club afterwards, an enclosed environment the English lads appreciated more than the late-Autumn heat beating down on Lutgensvale. Highlights included a showdown between Danny ‘Darkhorse’ Coulridge and their designated youngster, a deadlock that three downed beers failed to separate, and another pub-challenge that saw Gary Fouche set some kind of record. Hopefully the ‘Been Boys can set another precedent when they face the Baa-Baas on Wednesday, a team who made the finals of last year’s A league.

Brothers

Wela finally meets his British brother from another mother.

The executive summary is as follows:

Shebeen Boys 10 tries to Olney RFC’s 2 tries.

Shebeen Boys & Olney RFC – 1 case Guinness, 1 case cider, 5 cases beer.

Shebeen Boys & Olney RFC – numerous silly songs and drinking games that led to drunken disorderly behavior.

Wednesday: Shebeen Boys vs. Barbarians

Coach Milfred will post the team shortly.

Game Time: 19h00

See you all there at 18h00

Please Note: Wes loses Wallet

On a completely different note, Weasel lost his wallet at the field. It’s black and contains cards and money. If you picked it up please bring it to Wednesday’s game!
