Shebeen take the spoils on Derby Day, 26-0

Dear Shebeen,

As I walked on to the fields on Saturday, a feeling of intense excitement was coarsing over me as I realised, Derby Day had ARRIVED! Neither team ever wants to go down in one of these fixtures, and on this specific day, Shebeen wanted it that much more.

From the outset, it was clear that we had them for pace out wide. While we struggled to hold our own in the set phases, we used the width and space made available to us at every opportunity, and the result was that the uncharacteristically disorganised defense of the Galetti Fourths was run ragged.

Shebeen ran in 4 unanswered tries on the day, and aside from Karl’s runaway individual effort, all of them were examples of great running rugby and excellent support play. The other try scorers were Siv (again), Bradshaw, who had a huge game at fullback, and Vinnie, who showed the opposition his clean pair of heels more often than not!

The defensive game was nothing to be laughed at either, as the Fourths did not lie down and take it. Time and again they would mount attacks that would penetrate deep into the Shebeen 22, only for the defensive giants of The Ogre and Man of the Match, Devon “I’m Pink” to stop them dead in their tracks in the centres.

So, the day ended in a 26-0 victory for Shebeen Boys, and a resounding victory for rugby in general! Many drinks were shared afterwards at The Shebeen, which is why most players even turned up, I suspect.

A huge thank you to BJ and his team for the game and the excellent socialising afterwards, we look forward to the return leg on your home turf later this year!

  2. We are black, we are green, we’re a f’n green machine!

  3. Nice work boys, well played. Pity boput some of the chirps after the game. But a great post match regardless.

  4. Guys, I am GUTTED that I missed the game!! Well f’n done!! I cant only imagine how sweet those beers tasted afterwards.

  5. Def my favourite game for shebeen ever!! Felt freaking amazing walking off the field at half-time, ahead by 19, not to mention watching Carl’s try with 5 min to play, and knowing it was all over for 4ths. Commiserations to 4ths, but I think Shebeen earned victory on the day! Nonetheless, definitely looking forward to your riposte later in the season!
