Shebeen take the lead 1 – 0

They all gathered at the Pinelands oval early on Sunday morning; some still drunk the others hungover. It was the to be the first game of the T20 Fourths-Shebeen Challenge.

The strategies were simple; get as many runs in 20 overs as possible.

The two captain met on the battle field to toss the coin. Time stood still as the coin spun and finally landed on tails. The Fourths won the toss. It was clear Fourths captain Boom Boom Milfriedie read Sun Tzu’s Art of War the night before this big encounter. He was seen walking amongst the Shebeen Camp prior to the toss asking probing questions such as:

“Where were you last night?”
“You feeling hung over today?”
“Big night?”
“Your mom’s quite hot”

It was no surprise that he sent the Been boys in to field – let the sun cook their hangovers whilst his troops regenerated in the shade….

Et tu Brute

The Galetti Fourths were quietly confident about the two games. These were men built to swing tree stumps at small objects – running was not an option. This counted in the Shebeen’s favour. Bowl straight and let the ball do the work. With 4 stumping and some great catches this proved to be true leaving the Been boys with a mediocre total of 123 to acquire with 120 balls.

The Fourths struck early with the HUGE wicket of Rich ‘the recruit’ Connear. Was this the beginning of the end? Chris ‘I’m busy at work’ joined in form Jon ‘I didn’t bring my bubbly’ Cardinelli at the crease and got the Shebeen account running. Batsmen came and left and the Fourths slowly started pressurising the Been boys. Before they knew it the ‘easy’ target was no longer – 13 runs off 7 balls. With Warren ‘big stride’ Taylor and Andrew ‘Sunscreen’ Moir facing the last 7 balls the tension has immense.

6 off 2…

The Galetti Fourths take the first game by 6 runs

The second game started badly for the Shebeen team. The Fourths raced to 50 off only 5 overs and Shebeen lost key player Tyron ‘how do emails work’ Fouche to a dislocated finger. A total of 10 dropped catches didn’t help the Shebeen’s cause either. The Fourths continued with this dominance of the bat and set a massive total of 177. Moral was low and confidence to obtain this target was non existent.

Michael ‘Get the f*ck out my car’ Martin had a short but deadly innings proving to the Been boys that confidence is key. ‘The recruit’ decided to come to the game this time and got the Been boys to believe in Never Never Land with a retiring score of 30 runs. Anees also retired on 30 after playing the anchor role for the Been boys. With the game hanging on a cliff edge, Chris ‘MVP’ Rood aka ‘Mr Cool Head’ took the game by the short and curlies and hit the winning runs with 6 balls to spare.

It was a tie breaker – Shebeen 1, Fourths 1

Captains got together and decided that sharing the days success was like kissing your sister – not ideal. A 10 over game was decided to be the deal clincher.

Once again the Shebeen team took to the field to try restrict all runs to singles. Some great bowling and vastly improved fielding (only one drop catch *cough-Rolf-cough*) saw the Fourths being bowled out for a shocking 63 runs.

63 all out…Embarrassing

Rolf ‘Daddy Cool’ Fitschen and Mike ‘get the f*ck out my car’ Martin walked onto the field. They were calm and collected, 63 runs off 60 balls. Mike continued his dominance of his previous innings hitting three 6′s while batting partner ‘Daddy Cool’ only managed one. Both batsmen occupied the crease until Mike pumped a 6 over square leg to clinch the game for the Shebeen.

64 – 0

Shebeen win by 10 wickets

Ouch

All eyes now look towards the Hashes – can Shebeen continue their dominance on the cricket field?
