Shebeen sweep past Ikhaya

The Shebeen Boys booked their place in the semi-finals thanks to a resounding 33-0 victory over Ikhaya on Wednesday.
At one stage it seemed Shebeen were cruising in third gear, but they still managed to run in five tries in arguably their most expansive performance to date. Wesley van Heerden finally got the opportunity to utilise his electric pace and bagged a hat-trick, but the try of the night was scored by Chris ‘This is my last game’ Vella. Playing in the unfamiliar position of centre, Vella benefited from quick ball and broke the first line of defence. Although he had men on either side, Vella arced right and showed good strength to dot the ball down despite being smashed by two defenders in the process.
The backline could have scored even more tries if not for a few wayward passes and knock ons. The opportunities were available thanks to a formidable platform laid down by the Shebeen forwards, with every man ensuring clean ball was available.
The loosies were prominent in slowing Ikhaya ball, while tight forwards like Rolf Fitschen and Warren Taylor carried the pill up strongly. In a cameo appearance in the flyhalf channel, Milfred Lindemann proved useful in this respect, although there’s little doubt he’s more Andy Goode than Dan Carter.
After a shaky start to the season, the confidence is starting to flow and it looks like the Beenies could end the competition with the title for the first time in history. But complacency has been a killer in the past, and no man in this team will be taking anything for granted in next week’s semi-final fixture.

next game is a biggie. college are certainly no pushover this year. they’re also on a winning streak and will come all guns blazing!
More booze? Thursdays never were my favourite, but I’m am hanging after that bender in the club. Ahh hell, let’s do it all again next week.
