Rugby Season 2007

UCT INTERNAL LEAGUE 2007:

At last, the new season is just around the bend. University has started in earnest (this I know because I’ve had to sit in f&*$ing traffic for the last 2 days whilst trying to get onto the M3 PLUS I tried to go shopping at the Pick in Rondebosch last night, at 19:30, and every till was open and the queues were 8 deep – the more the shelf packers tried to shove food on the shelves the quicker the gannets, vultures and gulls snapped it up!).

Anyway. The important thing is that Internal League starts mid to end April and that means we need to start having “formal” get togethers at the bosch so that we can confirm that we need front rowers…

So, remember that there’s touch rugby this Sunday at the bosch fields behind the tennis courts. Bring any mates (or connections) you have that are good rugby players and keep an eye on the site for official practices!

This year promises to be a corker. We have secured Guinness as a sponsor once again. We are going on tour to KZN. We’ve got a number of casual sports events (bowls, cricket, football, golf, etc) and special happenings planned. But, most importantly, we have loads of partying to do!

Don’t forget to check out the new league structure and kick-off date under the click through on the right regarding Internal League Fixtures.

SUNDAY “OLD CROCKS” LEAGUE & THE TOURING TEAM:

There’s an official Sunday league this year for the older lads – or guys that don’t want to take their rugby too serious and prefer the drinking instead. Check out the Sunday League Fixtures click-thru on the right for details.

PLUS! The world-famous Shebeen Boys will be playing a friendly match against a touring team from Bedford in the UK on Sunday 22 April 2007. Olney RFC have been around for over 100 years (see link to the right) – and so too have some of their players – according to tour organiser Dean Henrickson. They’re out here to see how real rugby is played, drink some delicious Guinness and host some coaching clinics in disadvantaged neighbourhoods along the Garden Route. The game will be played at Lutgensvale and followed by drinks at the not-so-world-famous Olympics Sports Club in Rondebosch.
