On saturday we kick off our rugby season with a match against Australian touring side, The Wanderers from New South Wales. This really is going to a great start to a fantastic 2010 season!

In preparation for the internal league kick off on April 14th, we need to get some game time under our belts, starting with this:

When: Saturday, March 13th

Where: UCT C Field

Meet time: 12:00

Kick off time: 13:00

Opponents: The Wanderers (NSW)

After the match, we will be moving the vibe down to our clubhouse, The Mowbray aka The Shebeen for a few drinks and a braai with our visitors before they head off to Newlands for the Stormers vs Hurricanes. It is looking to be a seriously good day filled with rugby, drinks, boerie and mates so make sure you and your supporters come down for both the match and post- match celebrations!

What to bring: Green shorts, green (or hooped green and white) socks, other rugby paraphernalia, money for fines, socials and boerie rolls which we are braaing for the occasion, and of course bring supporters!

It is that time of the year again where we all gather to make very important decisions for our club. No, these do not include “Do I go to The Mowbray or Steers directly after a wednesday night game?” (although that is very important too)

Not only do we need to vote on a new committee, we basically need to decide how our club is going to run and be run for the next year. However, the catch is that we need your input and your vote, else we have no idea how you want the club to run…

So, be there to have your say and add your two cents!

The AGM will take place THIS COMING SUNDAY- Sunday March 7th.

It will take place AT 10 AM- Yes, am is morning time PRACTICE (after 5pm)

It will take place at THE MOWBRAY- Our headquarters Lutz- Our practice fields

Gents, this is very important, so make sure you clear the morning (ok, not the whole morning, but some of it at least) get to practice so that we can sort all of this out and get on with having a fantastic 2010!

Meet by parking lot opposite Shell garage on the same side as putt putt.

We all start together, run at your own pace for 20 minutes, then turn around and finish with everyone.

The aim is to grow these social runs week by week so that we can turn it into a bit of a vibe and end off the day with a bit of exercise and quiet bevy. We had 5 people there previously, lets up the numbers and enjoy the last bit of summer booty.

Ok let’s get rid of the bad news 1^st- The 1^st team avoided relegation and the 2^nd team came 2^nd last but luckily we can’t drop down a league. Our 1^st season started off very well but the wheels came off after  the new year. We think that next year we can only improve as a club , we did have a lot of inexperienced players who will come on in leaps and bounds in their 2^nd year. Remember that we probably have one of the youngest clubs in the Western Province and the spirit is definitely high.

Now onto better things- the club started its competitions from Saturday and some very interesting games took place. We are now into the last 4 off the novices -Gareth Rosslee will play Jason Janse van Rensburg in the one semi and Rob van Hille will play Mwize[our barman for those of you who have never been to the club] in the other semi final. By the way Mwize had a great tussle with Jules Horak in the quarter-final.

Mwize had a great weekend because he also won against Jill van Rensburg and Henk Beekman and is still in the running for all 3 competitions.

This weekend on Saturday from 12 to 2.30pm  and on Sunday from 9am we are trying to get people to play their games, especially in the main competition. We need the following games to take place-

Errol Concur vs. Dean Jackson. Scotty vs. Gareth, Hans Greyling vs. Warren Hewitt, Brad vs Terry Leahy, Piers vs Anton v v, John Rosslee vs Clive Garcin, Dave Milne vs Bronco, Colin Peters vs Maurice Moyles and Erik v v vs John Commins. You can play during the week as well and if you think you can’t make the games then rather withdraw from the tournament. Please try and find markers as well. [Jill was tired of marking 6 games on Sunday]. Please make contact with your opponents as soon as possible. You can wear mufti when you play.

The weekly club draw was won again last week and Tom Van Vlaanderens number came out the bag to win R200. The attendance draw was won by Val Leahy with Paul Rist getting 2^nd prize. This week the main draw will start with R200 in the kitty. We will also be making chips so come down and spend an hour at the club.

For the next 3 weeks starting  on Thursday evening Newbie Bowls are running a pairs competition on the one green as they have the other green full of Newbies. We are still looking for a few teams so if anybody is interested please contact Tom urgently at the club on  0216891617 or 0825562639. The competition has been kindly sponsored by ZANUSSI and there will also be cash prizes. The entry fee is R240 per team for the 3 weeks-you will also receive a boerie roll each week. [you can also pay R80 a week]. The competition will be 2-4-2 and you play 2 games over 8 ends. You can enter a mixed /men’s or ladies side.
