Howdy chaps.

Well it has taken time to stomach the defeat to the Panthers. Well done to them for beating us 8-7 in the Internal League Plate Final on Wed 21 Sept. Damn it was so close. So nailbitingly close. Rather like the Boks loss on Sunday. I know what they feel like, the better team dominated everything, except the scoreboard. Unfortunately that is how sport and rugby goes.

Nevermind that, we can only watch and wonder what will happen next. Go Wales.
Oh and Richie! Enjoy your Vodacom sponsored trip to NZ for the semi’s and final. Skin a Kiwi (ref) while you are there.

The end of season function will be happening soon. Notice will come out soon. But regarding that, if I don’t get the jerseys back from the final – YOU will know who you are – there won’t be an end of the season function. So don’t be a doos and ruin it for your mates. Just message me and fess up.

Get your teams in for the Players4Players Bowls day. A superb day out and benefits go to disabled rugby players injured through the sport that we love to play and watch so much. Please support Cappie Chris and Klippies Mark.

Lastly, next year sees Shebeen Social Sports Club break through to new ground. 2012 will be our TENTH year of UCT Internal League. A milestone chaps. One that goes over most of your heads, but one that you should all take note of and respect. A special year chaps. And it wouldn’t happen without the legacy the older guys have left for you. Understand it, accept it and appreciate it.

Now get involved, support the P4P and get your mates to join Shebeen SSC and let’s make our tenth year flippin awesome. All sponsorship ideas welcome.
Don’t forget, touch is on, on Sundays at 4pm at Luts and coach Pete has said he will light a fire at his house, all you need to bring is a roll of wors and some dops. Guaranteed fun and a swim in the pool. Thanks Pete!

On a usually windy Wednesday on the Green Mile, Kopano hosted Shebeen in a top of the table clash.
The boys were amped and the vibe good. The defence..not so much. Shebeen were down two tries and not awarded one when Devzo6′s boetie, Mike, touched down over the line and then had the ball ripped off him. Oh well. Not long after that, we had an unfortunate incident that stopped the game.
Great recovery Shaun ‘Pikey’ Fickling. Hope you are doing alright.
After the ambulance left, there was almost no time to continue the game. The game was called off.

Shebeen share the points:
Now there are a few factors at play here. Firstly, the rules of internal league state that each team must have a front row and reserves to enable play to take place. (Shebeen did, Kopano didn’t)
Secondly, something like uncontested scrums should not be discussed with a backline player and the ref at kick off, let alone agreed upon. (stupidly Pikey agreed without consulting or knowing the rules)
So that makes it a point each in each teams’ favour for the result.
Luckily for Shebeen, both factors were taken into account and it was decided that because the game could not be finished and uncontested scrums, etc. that the points would be shared.
That puts Shebeen at the top of the table. Nice one lads.
Three games, three results without actually playing. Hope you boys are ready for quarterfinals next week.

See you soon.

Despite the windy conditions at the Green Mile Shebeen rocked up to play some good running rugby.

After last week’s walkover over Smuts Shebeen was eager to get out the blocks and play a decent game of rugby.

Ikhaya were lacking numbers so Shebeen lent them our entire bench for the game so we could play 15 on 15. We even gave them the Godfather and founder of Shebeen Sean Grobelaar to try and improve their chances. Not even the resident Australian could help Ikhaya!

Shebeen put together some nice passages of play in the first half with Captain Hosepipe breaking the Ikhaya defence at will. After dominating the uncontested scrums and 1-dimensional lineouts Chabal found himself on the wing to finish off a good move in the left corner with a rather unconventional run in and dot down. Siv will have to give Chabal some lessons on the sawn dive finish. Shebeen managed to score another try before halftime with Karl Spartan finishing off a try in the right corner. The standout player for Ikhaya was our very own Carl Bestbieber who took to tapping quick penalties for them and running hard through the Shebeen first line of defence before being mowed down and turned over by the Shebeen forwards. Ruxton the Killer decided to take it easy on our Shebeen players playing for Ikhaya and did not break anyone’s noses this week. The highlight of the first half was Junior running over a number of Ikhaya players, squashing and injuring 2 of them before being held up over the line right on the half time whistle. I think he was possibly held up by his amazing ‘Tap Out’ Belville shirt!?

Shebeen kept the ball closer to the forwards against the wind in the second half and played some of their best supporting rugby with good continuity and ball handling (the Boks could of taken some tips). Spartan scored his 2nd try finishing off a try after some more great work by the forwards. With Ruxton now filling in for Ikhaya, Devzo’s younger boet Mike thought he would move to the wing to exact some revenge for his brother. After pulling out the move of the game, Andre took a great drift pass from Captain Hosepipe, offloading to Richard who sent the ball wide to Mike to run in the try of the match for Shebeen (let’s be honest Ikhaya never looked like scoring). Ogre had a great 80m run off the kickoff only to be absolutely smashed in the tackle on the 22m. Guess he had flashbacks to being outdowned by his girl Kirsten at the previous week’s fines (followed by a sympathy score) but a great run none the less! If memory serves me correctly Karl Baywatch Bergeman got over for yet another Shebeen try donning the well-deserved pink pants for his antics on the balcony in Langebaan.

Welcome to our new players Ryan and Chris. Thanks Chris for taking over the pouring duties and Junior for taking over the pouring duties from Chris. This really is not the season to be the pourer! (God, I hope Kyle actually rocks up for the next game!) Thanks must also go to the female spectators…let’s hope you are all still in play for our next match.

Well done on a good result against kak opposition! Kopano is up next in 2 weeks and should prove to be our toughest game in this pool.

Thanks Chris Rood!

The Shebeen Boys scored a bonus-point victory for the second
consecutive week when they smashed Ikhaya 20-0 on Wednesday.

Shebeen were awarded five log points when Smuts failed to pitch up
last week, and collected another full haul when Ikhaya struggled to
field a full team on Wednesday. Wanting the team to enjoy some match
practice, the Shebeen management supplied Ikhaya with several Shebeen
players and after a quick word with the referee, the 15 on 15 contest
commenced.

Scrums were uncontested, but the Shebeen forwards dominated at the
collisions. All four of the tries were scored out wide as the backline
took advantage of a solid platform.

Chabal raced in for the first, while another good build up resulted in
a try for Spartan in the right-hand corner. There were a few butchered
opportunities, but Shebeen stayed hungry in the second half to pick up
two more tries through Spartan and Mike van Schalkwyk.

Hi All,

Last week saw Devzo 6 unseated at the top spot in the Pink Rankings by our very own Charna, Quade Epstein (if you missed it, check it out here). This week, we have something a little different… There is the ultimate heads up, single confrontation between the two princesses. But at the end of the day, there is only one candidate worthy of the Pink Pants this week… Let’s get into it:

Princess Showdown:

In the aftermath of the w@nker move from the Smutsmen, there was a little internal game that went off fairly well. Aside from this incident, that is.

Tale of the tape:

Rux “Angry Midget” McClure: VS Devon “Devzoooo6″ Van Schalkwyk

Height: 3’5” Height: A lot taller

Weight: 32.8 kg Weight: A lot heavier

Reach: Just past his nose Reach: A lot further

A broken nose and many tears (from both parties) later, these two qualify as our princesses this week. Rux, calm down brother… He’s your teammate! Classic little man syndrome… And Devzo, he’s a midget. Let’s be honest, you need to man up!

As awesome as that little matchup was, we have a special someone that grabs the Pink Pants this week. Known for his bullocking runs from the base of the scrum, his love of his own guns, and a new found dress sense…

Congrats to:

Karl “Baywatch” Bergemann

100 plus Shebeen members just vomited in their own mouths…

A HUGE FINE FOR THIS AFTER THE GAME, PIKEY!!

SHEBEEN

…you have been hiding under a rock or your electric blanket the last few weeks, I thought it best to mention what has been happening on the Shebeen front.

In no particular order: Gazza ‘double 8′s’ defied all odds and beat all and sundry to the first prize in the Windhoek Fourths.com poker fundraising evening. Nice one Gazza. (Got your dealing commission back yet? Ha ha. Dork)

Shebeen boys rugby took a knock against the self same Windhoek Fourths.com rugby team in our annual derby. The score was 25 – 19. (Still waiting on JC to write the match report) But you can see the Fourths.com match report here.

It is 20 more sleeps until Shebeen boys get back on the Green Mile to continue the UCT Internal league season. Hope you boys are seriously looking forward to it. Just waiting on UCT to provide details of that fixture.

In the biggest news yet, our esteemed Chairman, well let’s not go that far, Richie, the Pirate and his fellow first mate Moby have been plundering all and sundry on the Put Foot Rally 2011. A superb idea from Shebeen’s finest, Daryn ‘Mountainshak’ Hillhouse, sees entrants traversing 7 countries in seventeen days, over 7000km’s and with 7 checkpoint parties. Sounds flippin awesome and I know I’m not the only one pissed off at not being there. I must say a massive well done to Daryn for organising this awesome event. It is for charity and is showcasing the best of what Southern Africa has to offer. Catch updates from Shebeen’s representatives, the Pirates of the Kariba Dam on Facebook and twitter. Also see Daryn’s updates here. It won’t be long before you see the evidence of these plundered states by the Pirates and the other naughty fellas on this rally. Look out for the naked pics and listen for the fireside stories. They are sure to entertain.

A very big thank you must go to two Shebeen old boys who are both on mud island at the moment. I suppose they will tell us it is summer there in England or something, but nevertheless, thanks to Blinky (Tom Loubser) and Brettster (Brett Wilson) for paying their Shebeen membership subs. What a fine example you set for the boys.

Just a reminder for Shebeen Boys to PLEASE pay their subs and internal league fees for this year. PLEASE!

Have a lekker weekend, enjoy the Super 15 Final or the Knysna half marathon if you are there running it. That goes for Sean ‘Gov’ Voigt and many others.

Yes, that’s right, some of you will remember the thrashing Shebeen gave theFourths.com last year in our annual derby.

TWENTY SIX points to… ZERO!

A hiding to nothing. A thorough win. It was a super fantastic special day out. Don’t you want to be a part of that?
Shebeen owe it to themselves to spoil another Fourths.com party.
Let me spell it out for you. The only way Shebeen can achieve that again, is to have a team ready and available for THIS Saturday June 18 at VILLAGERS for a 2PM kick off. Meet at 1pm, bring a good game, party attitude and cash for compulsory fines

and for your subs!
False Bay will be playing at the club so it WILL be a festive day out. You can make it more festive by being there.
So come on chaps, get your replies to Richie and let’s do this.
