Nil. Zip. Nada. Big fat zero! It hit home just how great the bokke had played when I saw Martin Corry’s quivering lip in the post match interview. The interviewer asked an inane question that went something like “So, 36 nil. What are you going to do about the next two games?” What kind of answer did he expect? “Well Henry, we’ve decided to pack it all in. The wifey called me last night and said the lawn needs mowing. In fact, a lot of the lads have had calls from loved ones across the pond this week reminding them of household chores. So that’s it for us. Tally-ho!” Ok, so now we also know that the pastey pommy reporter is as crap as his rugby team. What a stupid question. But I have gone off at a tangent. My original point was Martin Corry’s lip and how it quivered. 36 – 0. That’s enough to make a grown man cry. But let’s not get carried away. Last year the bokke were battered 49 – 0 weren’t they and we’ve bounced back. Still lovely though. 36 – 0.

Next up on the bok radar is a game against Tonga, who beat Samoa yesterday! Jake has promised a team change to play the Tongans but will then revert to his first choice squad for the USA – so that they can start to build momentum for the quarter final against a depleted Wales. Let’s watch this space. Hier kom die bokke!

Next up was the 19 run victory over England in the T20 World Cup last night at Newlands. Awesome stuff. The highlight of the night was Kevin Pietersen trundling down the wicket into Shaun Pollock (who’s obviously been watching the bokke – cos he stood his ground) and promptly getting run out. “Cricket a contact sport?” I hear you ask. Seems like everyone’s influenced by World Cup Rugby fever. Before I forget let me mention the second highlight of the evening. Albie Morkel! 3 sixes in a row. Each one bigger than the last. Will the person who picked up the balls at the SAB Brewery please return them to Newlands Cricket this morning for analysis. We suspect they may have come into contact with alien lifeforms on their way out of the ground!

Lastly. 19 September 2007. The Shebeen take on College. The game kicks of at 7.30 pm. Come on down and support. Bring some cash for drinks after the game. It’s going to be a duzi!

What can I say? I hope that all you Zimbos in the Shebeen Team wake up with massive headaches today! What a great day. And I’m not only talking about the cricket. In case you popped off to Jupiter last night Zimbabwe beat world champions Australia by five wickets in their opening T20 World Cup match.

So this is a great day, not for cricket officials or cricketers (although they probably have a reason to feel proud), but for the people of Zimbabwe (and I stress that this excludes Bob the Dick and his Nazi-like cronies). This is a great day for the people who live in a country with 10 000% inflation, where shops have nothing to sell, where people need to jump the border into South Africa risking their lives to get a bite to eat, where students have to leave the country to go play rugby for the world-famous Shebeen. This is a great day.

And then reality strikes and Zimbabwe is still Zimbabwe. Nothing has changed politically. There’s still a cock at the helm steering the Great Zimbabwe Zeppelin groundward. There’s still a Bob in charge, raping the breadbasket for all it’s worth. But hey. Hopefully he’ll die of syphillus sometime soon (oooops to harsh?).

But at least the cricketers beat the world champs last night. Today they take on the pastey poms. Go Zim! We’re all behind you!
